Difficult to pick winner for feature event

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Dec 22: A card of six events has been drawn for the 11th Lahore Winter

Meeting to be held at the racecourse on Sunday.

Horse-racing will resume here after a break due to the holy month of fasting (Ramazan).

All events will be contested over the sprinting distance of six furlongs.

The feature event, the Kamalia Cup, a combined class IV & V race, will have 15 runners. Since all the contestants will be racing after over a month’s break, it will be difficult to predict how they are going to perform. So, forecasting of winners in the races is a tricky business.

In the main event, however, class-wise the five-year-old bay mare Fanim stands out among the 15 acceptors. The blue roan gelding Shannel, the grey mare Dilnasheen II and the bay colts Kargil Tiger and Sarfrosh are the other prominent sprinters, who if are fit, can pose challenge to Fanim before losing. This will be the third race in the racing order.

The first race will start at 12.30 pm.
