ISLAMABAD, Dec 22: The government has decided to freeze the accounts of Pakistan-based organizations placed on the terrorist list by the Bush Administration, official sources said.
The advisory to this effect has not been issued by the State Bank as yet but it would be issued soon, the official said on the request of anonymity.
Bush administration, which had already blocked assets of 156 organizations and individuals for their alleged links with Al- Qaeda network, included UTN and Lashkar-i-Tayyaba in the list on Wednesday.
UTN, an organization, which foreign office had stated in several of its briefing was involved in charity work in Afghanistan, was headed by Bashir-ud-din Mehmood, a scientist imprisoned for his links with Al-Qaeda.
Lashkar-i-Tayyaba was described by President Bush as “a stateless sponsor of terrorism” causing tension between India and Pakistan through ‘terrorist activities’.”
