Osama not sighted for a week: Franks

KABUL, Dec 22: Osama bin Laden has not been reliably sighted for the past week and US forces do not know whether he is dead or alive, US Gen Tommy Franks said on Saturday.

Gen Franks, the commander of US forces in Afghanistan and the region, told reporters in Kabul that the hunt for Osama was now focused on three possibilities.

“He can be in Tora Bora or in that area dead, he can be somewhere else in Afghanistan and still alive, or perhaps he may have gotten over into Pakistan,” Gen Franks said.

“I think we’ll hear an awful lot of speculation, but right now we don’t know which of those three categories he’s in.”

AFGHAN COMMANDER: An Afghan commander in charge of the Tora Bora caves said on Saturday that Osama had probably gone to Pakistan.

“My personal feeling is that Osama has left for Pakistan,” Haji Musa, a commander whose forces are deployed in the White Mountain range, told AFP.—Agencies
