Dacoits loot cash, gold

VEHARI, Dec 21: Dacoits on Thursday night took away cash and gold ornaments worth hundreds of thousands of rupees in different strikes in the city.

Dacoits barged into Abdul Hamid’s house in Shahrukn-i-Alam Colony and took away cash and gold jewellery worth Rs200,000.

Meanwhile, robbers made off with Rs50,000 in cash, jewellery and other valuables from Naveed Akhtar’s house in Mumtazabad.

In another strike, robbers stormed into Nazir Ahmad’s house in Gulgasht Colony when the inmates were asleep. They decamped with Rs100,000 in cash, ornaments and other valuables.

Police are investigating.

A bandit deprived one Waheed of his two-wheeler when he was on his way back home in Basti Maluk.

ARRESTED: Local police on Friday claimed to have arrested Lashkar-i-Jhangvi activist Anisur Rahman of Chak 61/WB, Vehari.

Acting on a tip-off, the team raided his house and arrested him. He was involved in several cases of murder including the one of four Shiya activists in Rial Bazaar in Feb 1995.

Meanwhile, a police team claimed to have arrested 12 people with illicit weapons in different parts of the district.

The arrested included Muhammad Farooq, Munir Husain, Muhammad Ajmal, Muhammad Aslam, Allah Ditta, Muhammad Iqbal, Salim Akhtar, Omar Daha, Bashir Ahmad Gujjar, Qasim Daultana and Muhammad Sabir Bhatti.

Cases have been instituted against them.
