Industrialist dies in custody

GUJRANWALA, Dec 19: An industrialist died in police custody here on Wednesday.

Shamshad Ali was running a gas cylinder valve manufacturing unit. A few days ago, he was taken into custody by Sabzi Mandi police on suspicion of manufacturing valves in the name of another company. The police reportedly used third degree method during interrogation. Due to police torture, Shamshad fell unconscious and died in the lock-up.

Police denied the torture and claimed that he died due to a cardiac arrest.

His body was removed to the local civil hospital for autopsy.

SHOT DEAD: A woman was shot dead while another was burnt alive here on Eid day.

Shahnaz Bibi was asleep in her house in Baqir Kot village, Kamoki, when unidentified assailants shot her dead.

The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained.

Farah Bibi of Islampura sustained burns in a kitchen fire. She died on the way to hospital.
