‘Progress in Tora Bora continues’

WASHINGTON, Dec 16: Despite claims by US-allied Afghan troops that they have driven Al-Qaeda fighters from their hideouts, US warplanes resumed bombing raids on Sunday, supporting a Pentagon contention that “it’s going to be a while before we have the area of Tora Bora fully under control”.

US Central Command chief Tommy Franks said in a television interview that “progress continues” in the fierce fight over the Tora Bora mountain.

“I think that progress continues in Tora Bora. We are... with these opposition force commanders down in the vicinity of Tora Bora. They are making progress,” he told ABC from Central Command headquarters in Tampa, Florida.—AFP
