KARACHI, Dec 16: Bold Commander, a five-year-old bay horse owned by Humayun Mirza and trained by seasoned A. Hannan, is fancied in these columns to win the main event, in the Winter Race Meeting, which begins on Wednesday, Dec 19 at the Karachi Race Course, when horseracing commences over here after a one month’s stoppage due to the Holy month of Ramazan.

Participating in the last race in a field of six events, all going over five furlongs, Bold Commander will be challenged throughout the race by Kamal Farooq’s chestnut filly Nudrat and Syed Taufiq Kamal’s grey colt Al Jarrar.

In the opener which begins at 1.00 p.m., Night Hero tracking well in the early morning exercise looks a good thing to bag the event, but danger could come from Pride Of Performance, a class of his own in this company and Baa Wafa. In the following event, Prism Of Life is our fancy, although many may fancy the bay gelding Just For Fun, a good second in its last outing.

The game Double Your Money should be on hand to grab the third slot.

After a fluent victory last time out, Baby Face should win the third race for the mere asking, although Aziz Love and Simple Prayer will also make their presence felt.

The fourth race has a big field of 18 runners vying for the top honours and should provide a close finish between Khalida Yasmin’s chestnut colt Satellite Star, top weight Hamza Sahib and the veteran Sachin, with Shahdad Star completing the frame.

Welcome Shahtab has had many close misses in the past, but although carrying nine stones and one pound on her back, the bay mare with a good lad astride could carry the honours for the owner Mrs. Shahzadi Erum. Another mare, the brave Tomahawk should edge out the grey colt Al Zarrar and Pari Pakar for the second spot.

All said and done, horseracing on Wednesday afternoon looks very competitive and the racing fans are advised not to burn their fingers.
