Headconstable dies in encounter

GUJRANWALA, Dec 16: A headconstable was killed on Sunday in an encounter with robbers in Sodara, Wazirabad.

Riaz Ahmad and Muhammad Asif were patrolling near Haripur village when they found some suspects sitting along the road. Taking in the situation quickly, the robbers fired at the policemen to escape their arrests. As a result, Riaz died on the spot while Asif escaped unhurt. Later, a heavy police contingent rushed to the spot, besieged the area and arrested all the four outlaws. They were identified as Muhammad Zafar, Muhammad Afzal, Muhammad Saeed and Muhammad Munir.

A case has been registered against the outlaws.

SENTENCED: An additional district and sessions judge on Saturday awarded 20 years imprisonment to Muhammad Ashiq and Muhammad Irshad in a double murder case.

The court acquitted co-accused Muhammad Hanif, Muhammad Rafiq and Mahmood Ali, giving them the benefit of doubt.

According to the prosecution, the convicts killed their sister and her lover Muhammad Bashir alias Noori in Khot Khurd village on Jan 30, 2000.
