BAHAWALPUR, Dec 16: Kotwali and Civil Lines police registered cases against two shopkeepers, Shakoor and Mahboob, for tampering with electricity meters here on Sunday.

Meanwhile, local police have smashed a gang for stealing the electricity wires near Basti Karna.

Mepco SDO had lodged the complaint against the culprits. Police have recovered wires worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from the culprits Abdul Majid, Munir Ahmad, Muhammad Akram and Abdul Malik who confessed to their crime. Another team recovered two smuggled cars from one Kalim who was driving a vehicle with fake number plate.

On his information, another car was recovered and he was charged under the customs act.

ANNOUNCED: Islamia University, Bahawalpur, has announced to start the classes in Bachelor of Islamic System of Medicine and Surgery with effect from Jan 1, 2002.

Students holding FSc, pre-medical or equivalent degrees will be eligible to apply for admission by Dec 31.

EID PRAYERS: Eid prayers will be offered in over a dozen mosques, parks and playgrounds in the city.

The main congregation will be held at the Markazi Eidgah. Qazi Rashid Ahmad will lead the prayers at 8.30am.

The second biggest congregation will be held at the Satellite Town park where Jaish-i-Muhammad chief Maulana Masood Azhar will lead the prayers.

Women will join prayers at the Abbasia High School ground in a separate enclosure.
