Khursheed, Jawed steer Rangers to victory

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 15: A 130-run partnership for the fourth wicket between wicket-keeper Mohammad Khursheed and Jawed Qadeer, helped Rangers Gymkhana register a shock six-wicket victory over the KGA Gymkhana in the final of the Sixth Danish Trophy played at the KGA ground Saturday.

Winning the toss and deciding to bat KGA Gymkhana were skittled out 137 in 19.4 overs. Freddie Decruze and Sunil Shanker 25 and 23 runs while Hilary Rodrigues chipped in with 22.

Haris Javed was the pick of the Rangers attack claiming four for 13. He was ably supported by Shakeel Anwar two for 23 and Amjad Ali Nayyar two for 26.

Set a relatively easy target of scoring 138 runs for victory, Rangers lost three wickets with only five runs on the board. But Mohammad Khursheed, who was later named the Man of the Match and the Batsman of the Tournament and Jawed Qadeer steadied the boat and were engaged in a match winning partnership of 130 runs.

Khursheed hammered two sixes and seven boundaries in his knock of 65, while Jawed weighed in with an unbeaten knock of 58.

Patrick Deniz, opening the KGA attack bagged two for 14.

KGA skipper Andre Bernard was adjudged the best bowler of the tournament and Calvin Gonsalves was named the best allrounder.
