HYDERABAD, Dec 15: The registrar of the University of Sindh announced here on Saturday that the university had decided to grant six fellowships to the teachers of its affiliated degree colleges for MPhil and PhD degree programmes.

The decision was taken by the vice-chancellor of the university, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, and approved by the academic council of the university at its meeting held here the other day.

The main objective of the decision is to motivate the teachers to undertake higher studies that will eventually improve the education standard.

The selected teachers of the affiliated degree colleges of the university will be exempted from tuition fee of Rs4,000, library fee of Rs250, library deposit of Rs1,000 and caution money of Rs700.

One thousand rupees per month will be paid to the teachers each as allowance for two years for the MPhil programme and for three years to PhD candidates subject to the their satisfactory performance, and Rs5,000 will also be paid to the teachers each as thesis preparation cost.

Only the confirmed, bachelor-level teachers of the degree colleges affiliated with the university and having at least five years’ experience will be eligible to apply for the fellowships.

Moreover, only those who obtained 50 per cent marks in their masters degree programmes will be eligible for the pre-entry test of the fellowships.

EXAMINATION: The controller of examinations, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, announced here on Saturday that the first semester examination 2000-2001 for fresh/failure and improver candidates of the post-graduate diploma in the local government will be held from Jan 4, 2002, at the department of political science.
