Jordan helps Wizards to 4th straight win

WASHINGTON, Dec 13: Michael Jordan scored 25 points with sis rebounds and seven assists to help the Washington Wizards beat the Miami Heat 82-80 Wednesday to extend their season-high winning streak to four games.

Richard Hamilton added 23 points on 10-for-19 shooting for the Wizards.

LaPhonso Ellis missed a potential game-winning three-pointer with three seconds left for the struggling Heat and the rebound fell to Washington guard Tyronn Lue as time ran out.

The Heat, who charged back after trailing 71-63 after three quarters, were paced by Jimmy Jackson, who scored 18 points. Ellis added 15 points and Alonzo Mourning 11 for Miami.

In San Antonio, Tim Duncan had 28 points and 13 rebounds as the Spurs charged past the Toronto Raptors 108-95 for their fifth win in a row.

Raptors star Vince Carter, who entered the game second in the NBA in scoring at 27 points per game, sat out the second half with a bruised right calf after scoring just six points in 21 minutes.

The Spurs improved to 10-1 at home and 15-4 overall.

Wednesday’s results (home team in CAPS):

SAN ANTONIO 108 Toronto 95

WASHINGTON 82 Miami 80

NHL

NEW YORK: Defenseman Andy Delmore scored twice on the power play to help lift the Nashville Predators to a 4-2 victory Wednesday over the New York Rangers, who also may have lost the services of star winger Eric Lindros.

The Predators snapped a nine-game winless streak on the road courtesy of Delmore and fellow blue-liner Mark Eaton’s second goal of the season.

Delmore now leads his team and all NHL defensemen with 12 goals. Eight have come with a man advantage. Lindros scored his second goal of the game, and 18th of the season, to bring New York within one just over seven minutes into the second period, but he suffered a sprained left knee after a hip check from Vladimir Orszagh and did not take the ice in the third period.

Wednesday’s results:

CAROLINA 4 Florida 1

Nashville 4 NY RANGERS 2

ATLANTA 3 Montreal 3

DALLAS 4 Buffalo 3

Boston 4 PITTSBURGH 2

CHICAGO 2 St Louis 2

NEW JERSEY 3 NY Islanders 2 (OT)

Tampa Bay 3 CALGARY 1

COLORADO 5 Columbus 1

Vancouver 1 ANAHEIM 0 (OT)
