Haris, Sajid dominate


KARACHI, Dec 13: Formidable Paragon Constructors continued the domination of Ramazan events by reaching their third final after beating KESC by 31 runs in the semifinals of Karachi Gymkhana cricket tournament at Karachi Gymkhana Thursday.

Off-spinner Haris Ayaz maintained his dazzling show with the leather as he took four wickets for 38 runs in five overs to restrict a powerful KESC to 140 for nine in 25 overs after being set a victory target of 172.

Arif Mahmood topscored with 44 off 31 balls with three fours and two sixes.

Earlier, youthful Test reject Qaisar Abbas maintained his fine run with the bat, scoring an entertaining unbeaten 53 off 40 balls with three boundaries and two sixes in Paragon Constructors total of 171 for seven wickets in 25 overs. Shoaib Malik hit 36.

Karachi Gymkhana Whites will take on Tapal CC in the second semifinal Friday.

MALIR IN FINAL


Malir Gymkhana set a final showdown with Paragon Constructors when they surprised A.O. Cricket Club by seven wickets in the second semifinal of the Paragon Cup at UBL Sports Complex “A” Thursday.

Batting first, A.O.CC were bundled out for 122 in 23.5 overs against Malir Gymkhana’s pace-cum-spinners trio of pacemen Abdul Rauf, Mohammad Hasnain and Rashid Hanif.

Malir Gymkhana romped home for the loss of three wickets in 17 overs, scoring 124 for 3. Zeeshan Pervez slammed rapid 53 in 33 balls laced with eight boundaries and six while Rashid Hanif finished 33 not out with three fours.

When A.O. CC batted slow left-arm spinner Rashid Hanif snapped three wickets for 18 runs in five overs.

Abdul Rauf finished with three wickets for 28 runs and Hasnain chipped in with 2 for 21.

CENTURY BY SAJID


Sajid Ali hit an unbeaten 105 and Nadeem Shaikh smashed 96 not out to put A.O. Cricket Club in the final of A.O. Floodlight Trophy after a 69-run victory over Megacom CC at the Asghar Ali Shah Stadium Wednesday night.

A.O.CC amassed 208 without loss in a record breaking unbroken opening stand in 20 overs after electing to bat first. MCC in reply were bundled out for 139 on the last ball of 20th over.

Sajid blasted ten fours and three sixes off 80 balls while Nadeem Shaikh’s 61-ball innings was spiced with six sixes and as many boundaries.

The winner of the final will get Rs80,000 and runners-up pocketed Rs40,000.

KGA IN FINAL


Hostile pace bowling by Rajesh Ramesh coupled with match winning knocks by Sunil Shanker and Hilary Rodrigues, enabled KGA Gymkhana reach their seventh final this season, beating Clifton Gymkhana by 119 runs in the Sixth Danish Trophy played at the KGA ground Thursday.

Deciding to bat first, KGA Gymkhana raced to 191 for four in their 20 allotted overs through Sunil Shanker (71), studded with 10 boundaries, Hilary Rodrigues (57), laced with six boundaries and two huge sixes and Sham Ramesh (31). Syed Moshin Ali was the most successful bowler for the fielding side claiming two for 32.

Set a daunting task for victory, Clifton Gymkhana were set apart losing half their side for only 30 runs with Rajesh Ramesh four for 12 and Roland D’Souza causing the landslide.

Never recovering from the poor disastrous start, Clifton Gymkhana were bowled out for 72 runs in 14.2 overs with Imran Bashir chipping in with two for 10.

Friday’s fixture: Rangers Gymkhana v Mohammad Zamir Khan CC at 1-30 (Second semifinal).

ORIENT STARS IN LAST 8


Orient Stars beat Al Mumtaz CC by 90 runs and moved into the quarterfinal of the Mufeed-e-Aam Ramazan cricket tournament played at the Mufeed-e-Aam ground.
