Eight Afghan Sikhs deported

PESHAWAR, Dec 13: Pakistan on Saturday deported eight Afghan Sikhs after they were charged with entering the country illegally, official sources said here on Wednesday.

Terluk, Munawer, Sitan, Rajinder, Hajeet, Anob, Manjeet and Sundheer (all Sikh by caste) were arrested in the Mohmand Agency on Nov 25. After interrogation, they were handed over to Afghan authorities at the Torkham checkpost.

After the fall of the Taliban government in Kabul, Pakistan deported the first batch of externally-displaced people to Afghanistan.

The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) is reported to have called upon Islamabad not to expel the DPs unless normalcy returns in the war-ravaged country.
