Dara XI finish third

KARACHI, Dec 11: Col Dara XI surprised Munawwar-uz-Zaman XI with a hard-fought 3-2 victory to finish third in the 39th YMCA Khursheed Aslam memorial camp trainees league Tuesday at the YMCA Ground.

At the end of the four-team league matches Monday, Munawwar-uz-Zaman XI were placed third to Col Dara’s XI fourth, who Tuesday gave an outstanding performance to improve their position in the tournamemt whose final will be played Wednesday.

Col Dara XI should thank their goalkeeper Tanveer Malik who brought about several fine saves as Munawwar-uz-Zaman XI, trailed 1-2 at half-time, fought back to level 2-2 after resumption.

Col Dara XI were 2-0 up midway through the first session through right-winger Asad Hussain and Asfand Ali before inside-left Khursheed reduced thee margin before the change of ends.

Inside-right Asim Abbas struck to make it two-all before centre-forward Mohammad Essa steered Col Dara XI to a well- deserved 3-2 success , ten minutes before the final whistle

Munawwar-uz-Zaman XI came closer to get an equaliser but keeper Tanveer Malik foiled their three positive scoring attempts.

Wednesday’s fixture: (Final) Habib Ali Kiddi XI v Latif-ur-Rehman XI, 4.30pm.
