KARACHI, Dec 11: As many as 1,096, out of 5,583 residential plots in PECHS, are currently being used for commercial purposes.
About 38.21 per cent of these plots have been turned into commercial centres, 17.48 per cent into residential-cum-shops, 11.87 per cent into educational institutions and 6.72 per cent into flat sites.
This was stated by the Director, KDA Master Plan, Akhlaque Ahmed, at a meeting held here on Tuesday with regard to the formulation of a commercialisation policy for PECHS and its adjoining area. The meeting was attended by Nazim Jamshed Town Ahmed Parekh, Hafeez-u-Rahman Butt of ABAD, Rolend D’soza of Shahri, an NGO, Nooruddin of Pakistan Engineering Council, Shaukat Umer of NED Old Boys Association and others.
He informed the participants of the meeting that the PECHS commercialisation pilot project has been divided into three zones spread over of 1,800 acres.
The meeting decided to formulate a commercialisation policy through a coordinated comprehensive study. However, no final date be fixed for the task. Moreover, it should be devised in the light of public opinion and holding of consultations with councillors and Nazims of union councils.
The participants of meeting agreed to prepare a draft policy incorporating suggestions sought from the public representatives which could be presented in the KDA governing body meeting on Dec 26 for evolving a future strategy. — PPI
