Atif dominates final with four goals

LAHORE, Dec 9: Malik Atif Yar Tiwana scored four goals, including a hat trick, to carry Millat Tractors to a facile 6-2 win over Deutsche Bank in final of the Local polo tournament at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Sunday.

Ahmad Ali Tiwana scored four and Taimur Mawaz Khan “Tony” three goals to help Mayfair record a big 10-3 1/2 goals win over Ejaz Spinning during subsidiary final.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Sikandar Mustafa Khan, chairman Millat Tractors, gave away the prizes.

In the main final, Captain Azhar Ali scored both the goals of Deutsche Bank. Azhar scored a field goal at start of the first chukker. However, Malik Atif Yar Tiwana also scored a field goal for Millat Tractors to level the score 1-1 before this chukker ended.

The only goal of second chukker was put in by Atif, who again crowned a field effort. Millat Tractors led 2-1 at conclusion of the second chukker.

At beginning of the third chukker, Atif scored another field goal and completed his hat trick. Azhar scored his and Deutsche Bank’s second goal on a 60 yards penalty-hit with a lofted shot. But that was the last happy moment for the Bankers, who remained at the receiving end for the remaining duration of the final. Atif scored his fourth field goal with a lofted hit. Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana scored first of his two field goals. Millat Tractors led 5-2 at end of the third chukker.

Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana scored Millat Tractors’ sixth goal to put the issue beyond doubt. Thus Millat Tractors won the final 6-2.

Deutsche Bank: Sufi Muhammad Amir (0), Sufi Muhammad Haris (1), Captain Azhar Ali (2), Mir Shoaib Ahmad (0).

Umpires: Taimur Mawaz Khan “Tony” & Shah Shamyl Alam.

The Mayfair side was on a goal-scoring spree during the subsidiary final. Ejaz Spinning enjoyed half-a-goal’s advantage on the handicap and put in three goals during play.

Malik Asif Yar Tiwana drew first blood for Mayfair by scoring his only goal on a spot penalty near the goalpost. Ahmad Ali Tiwana scored first of his four field goals. Raja Amir scored a field goal for Ejaz Spinning.

Taimur Mawaz Khan scored first of his three field goals for Mayfair. Thus Mayfair built a 3-1 1/2 goals lead by end of the first chukker.

All three goals of the second chukker were put in by Mayfair. Taimur scored his second and third field goals during this chukker. In between these two, Ahmad Ali scored his second field goal. At close of the second chukker, Mayfair led 6-1 1/2.

Scoring in third chukker was also done by the Mayfair team, who put in two goals. Ahmad Ali scored both his field goals to take his tally to four and Mayfair’s tally of goals to eight.

Shahid Iqbal scored two back-to-back field goals at start of fourth chukker for Millat Tractors. Raja Amir scored his and Ejaz Spinning side’s second field goal.

Before the match ended, Ashfaq scored his only goal for the Ejaz Spinning team on a 60 yards penalty-hit which lost the subsidiary final 3 1/2-10.
