Niaz and Ayub help Publican lift trophy

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Dec 9: Publican Club annexed the Lahore City Ramazan football tournament title defeating the defending champions Shah Kamal Club in one-sided final 2-0 at the DPS ground Sunday.

Publican Club which mostly comprised of seasoned players from Sialkot region gave no chance to Shah Kamal Club to pose any threat throughout the 70 minutes game. Each half was of 35 minutes. Shah Kamal Club consisted of many players from Crescent Club, Faisalabad, a prominent football club of the country, but it looked like a disjointed lot as it failed to make dangerous inroads to penetrate the rival’s defence.

Publican Club got a flying start and staged regular raids from the kickoff. Their efforts bore fruit when centre-forward and skipper Niaz crowned a field effort in the 16th minute.

Outside-right Ayub doubled the lead in the second session of play by scoring a field goal. His first attempt struck the pole after

the goalie had been beaten completely and that gave Ayub much time to try again and make it 2-0.

Governor Punjab Lt. Gen. (retd.) Khalid Maqbool awarded the glittering cup to the Publican Club’s skipper Niaz.
