ISLAMABAD Dec 9: The administration on Sunday disallowed Taliban regime ambassador to Islamabad, Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef, to speak to students at a Madressah and attend an Iftar party there.

Mullah Zaeef was invited by Madressah Mohammadia administration in Sector F-8/2 for an Iftar party and a speech to the students.

However, personnel of an intelligence agency stopped him from entering the Madressah and told him that he could not visit any religious institution and speak to the students.

Mr Zaeef, instead of entering the Madressah, went to a nearby house and had Iftar there.

Mr Sohail Shaheen, a spokesman for the Afghan embassy and former deputy ambassador, however, attended the Iftar party but did not speak to the students and returned to his residence.

It is not clear whether the action of stopping Mr Zaeef from entering a religious school was under the orders of the Ministry of Interior or was it taken by the agencies on their own as no official was available to confirm the report.

Informed sources told Dawn that the former diplomats, including Afghan ambassador, were likely to be served with notice shortly to leave the country as they have no purpose left to stay back after the closure of their embassy.

Meanwhile, efforts were reportedly under way to reopen Pakistan embassy in Kabul and allow re-opening of Afghan embassy in Islamabad as soon as Hamid Karzai-led interim government takes over power.
