KARACHI, Dec 9: Sindh Health Minister Maj-Gen Ahsan Ahmed on Sunday praised the role of social welfare organizations and philanthropists for contributing Rs50 million for improving various wards of Civil Hospital and providing facilities to the patients there.
Ahsan Ahmed, who was the chief guest, speaking at an Iftar-dinner hosted in a hotel here by the Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Karachi, Prof Noshad A. Shaikh, in honour of “donors and well-wishers of Civil Hospital”, called upon other philanthropists and welfare organizations to contribute their part towards improvement of conditions in public sector hospitals.
The spirit and service of those assisting the hospitals could not be overlooked, he said, and called upon philanthropists to extend cooperation to the government in the provision of medical facilities to the people.
He said assistance and cooperation extended for the uplift of various wards of the hospital, including burns ward, cardio ward, gynae ward, casualty operation theatre, surgical ward, intensive care unit, child care unit, waiting rooms for patients and waiting rooms for visitors, was a welcome step.
The minister commended the services of philanthropists and donors, including Abdullah Feroz, Saifullah Paracha, Begum Ibrahim and Dr Saeeda Haider, and thanked them for providing medical facilities to the poor.
Maj-Gen Ahsan Ahmed was briefed on the development projects of the hospital. He said the execution of these works would help provide better treatment and medical care to the patients.
The minister was informed that the development work would be completed by March next year.
On this occasion, a shield was presented to the minister as well Sindh Health Secretary Khalid Lateef Chowdhry. Senior officials of the Health Department and those looking after welfare of the patients were also present.—APP
