KARACHI: Youth shot dead; five cars, 9 bikes hijacked

KARACHI, Dec 9: The police shot a young man to death, in what they claimed an encounter, in Buffer Zone on Sunday.
Three young men were travelling on a motorcycle when the police signalled them to stop in Sector 14-A in Buffer Zone. Instead, the young men tried to speed away, said the area people.
The policemen, who were also on a motorcycle, opened fire on the fleeing suspects. A man, sitting on the rear seat, was wounded in the alleged exchange of fire and fell on the ground. His other associates sped away, the area people said.
However, the police claimed that the young men had fired at them and the police returned the fire resulting in the death of one of the young men. The dead man was identified as Faquir Mohammed, aged 35, hailing from Khairpur.
The police claimed to have recovered one pistol and four rounds from the possession of the dead man.
The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.
CARJACKING: Fourteen vehicles — five cars and nine motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Sunday, the police said.
The cars were hijacked in Arambagh, Darakhshan, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Gulshan- i-Iqbal, and Rizvia Society.
The motorcycles were hijacked/stolen in Landhi, Clifton, Mehmoodabad, Civil Lines, Al-Falah, Korangi, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, and Gulistan-i-Jauhar.
The police also claimed on Sunday to have recovered nine vehicles in the city.
ROAD ACCIDENTS: A three-year-old boy and a man died in road accidents in the city on Sunday.
The police said that Mohammed Waris, aged three, was travelling with his mother, Shahnaz, on a bus of route 2-D (JA-1217). When they were getting down from the bus near KMDC College in North Nazimabad, both mother and son fell down on the road and were injured.
They were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital from where they were referred to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors pronounced Waris dead on arrival. His mother was admitted to the hospital.
The police claimed to have arrested the driver of the bus.
A man, Mohammed Raza, was run over by a vehicle on Super Highway in Gadap.
At least seven persons were injured when a Suzuki pickup collided with a truck in Nazimabad in the evening. The accident took place at Gujjar Nullah which connects Nazimabad with Liaquatabad.
The injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
DROWNED: a five-year-old boy died when he fell into a water tank in Hijrat Colony in the night.
The police said that Arsalan drowned in a water tank at a cattle-pen in Hijrat Colony. The body was sent to the JPMC for post-mortem, the police said.
DECOMPOSED BODY: Partially decomposed body of a young man was found in Shanti Nagar, Dalmia, on Sunday.
Sources at the JPMC said that the body was at least two-three days old and could not be identified. The dead man appeared to be in his thirties.
The police said that they were informed by neighbours of a foul smell coming out of a house in Shanti Nagar.
The body was sent to the JPMC for post-mortem, where the medicolegal report had been reserved till the receipt of the histopathological and chemical reports, an MLO said.
The police, however, said that the body had marks of rope around the neck.
