GUJRANWALA, Dec 7: Three traffic police constables were arrested by a DSP red-handed when they were receiving ‘Eidee’ from transporters here on Friday.

Police high-ups received complaints from transporters that traffic police officials were extorting ‘Eidee’ from them and motorcyclists. On it, a traffic DSP was deputed to check the constables indulging in corrupt practices. He raided Fatu Mand chowk, Farid Town bypass chowk and Sharifpura chowk on the GT Road and caught constables Muhammad Rafiq, Nasir Nadeem and Ghulam Rasul when they were collecting Eidee. He recovered Rs120 from them.

A case has been registered against them.

Meanwhile, the SSP warned that all corrupt and inefficient police officials would be taken to task if they failed to improve their efficiency.

BAIL REJECTED: An anti-corruption court rejected the bail application of an ASI on Friday.

ASI Zafar Iqbal Bhinder was arrested by police on the charge of embezzlement of gold ornaments and cash of a dead woman during investigation of a case a few months ago.

ARRESTED: At least 250 defaulters, including politicians and landlords of Kamoke and Hafizabad tehsils, were arrested on Friday. A joint raiding team of Small Business Finance Corporation (SBFC) and police, headed by recovery tehsildars, also recovered Rs20 million from defaulters.
