SANGHAR, Dec 6: Strike was observed on Thursday at Shahdadpur against the arrest of UC Nazim Muhammad Ali Shaikh for allegedly thrashing a judicial magistrate here on Thursday.

Some angry people also burnt old tyres at the Hala chowk denouncing the arrest of Mr Shaikh who has been remanded in police custody for four days by a judicial magistrate of Tando Adam.

The court staff of judicial magistrate, Shahdadpur, also wore black arm bands as protest against assault on judicial magistrate Adam H Ishaque Singhar by the UC Nazim. After remand he was shifted to an unknown place.

Late on Wednesday night another case No. 191/2001 under section 324, 34, 427, 109 PPC was registered against the Nazim. The complainant judicial magistrate, Mr Sanghar, has stated in the FIR that two persons on the instigation of UC Nazim fired at him while he was coming back to his home after Isha prayers.

Taluka Nazim, Shahdadpur, Lala Israr Magsi alongwith UC Nazim and Naib Nazim i.e. Hazoor Bux Rind, Shahid Thaheem, Anwar Chandio, Pir Koral, Pir Bux Dero, Saindad Rind, Muhammad Yaqoob, Ali Muhammad and Faisal Wassan, all belonging to Awam Dost Panel, said at a press conference at Shahdadpur press club that a resolution was passed in taluka council a few days ago and the shopkeepers were allowed to sell eatable articles after 3pm during Ramazan, and when the shopkeepers did so they were arrested by the magistrate and were herded to police station.

They threatened that if by Friday Mr Shaikh was not released, all of them would court arrest in protest.

NAZIM’s VERSION: Mr Shaikh while talking to Dawn at Shahdadpur police station alleged that the judicial magistrate was doing all this due to personal vendetta.

He said that on Nove 20 the judicial magistrate demanded a fire brigade vehicle to sprinkle water in the court premises as the session judge was coming for inspection.

Due to non-availability of driver the vehicle could not be sent there. This infuriated the magistrate and he ordered police to arrest the employees of UC.

An ASI Aslam Jamali arrested some UC employees including sub-engineer Yousuf Khan. All were released after two hours.

The matter was brought into the notice of SSP Sanghar who had suspended the ASI. He further said that on November 21 the taluka Nazim, Israr Magsi, sent a letter to Chief Justice, High Court of Sindh and complained against the attitude of the judicial magistrate Mr Adam Sangarr in letter No. 2503 of 2001.

Since then he has become enemy of Nazims and Naib Nazims belonging to Awam Dost Panel, he alleged. He alleged that on Wednesday too, our rival and defeated Nazim was accompanying the magistrate when he came to the police station.
