Sanitary workers go on strike

GUJRANWALA, Dec 5: Sanitary workers of Ghakkhar Town went on strike on Wednesday against non-payment of their salaries for the last two months.

The sanitary workers staged a sit-in in the compound of the defunct municipal committee and chanted slogans against union and tehsil councils.

They threatened that their salaries should be paid before Christmas otherwise they would continue their strike.

The Ghakkhar union council chief officer and other officials asked them to take one-month salary and resume their duties, but they reportedly declined their offer. They demanded that they should be paid two-month salary.

TWO KILLED: Two persons were killed and as many others injured in a road accident on the GT Road here on Wednesday.

A wagon was coming from Lahore when it collided head-on with a truck. Ghulam Mustafa of Sadho Goraya village and Faisal Iqbal of Wahdat Colony died on the spot, while Asif and Sultan Ali sustained injuries.

The injured were rushed to hospital from where Asif was shifted to the Mayo Hospital, Lahore, due to critical condition.
