KARACHI: Mismanagement hits admission process at KU

KARACHI, Dec 5: Mismanagement is affecting the process of admissions to honours and masters classes at University of Karachi, causing inconvenience to candidates.

Hundreds of candidates who had applied for admission in department of health and physical education were denied admissions despite the fact that they had a graduation degree and had fulfilled the eligibility criteria.

They were not only issued admission forms, but their forms were accepted and later, they were issued admit cards for an aptitude test for admission and they were even called for interviews but refused the admission, saying they were “ineligible for admissions” and criteria mentioned in prospectus for admissions.

“I’m a commerce graduate, having a B.Com degree from a public college affiliated with KU and applied for admission in Health and Physical Education Department after reading an advertisement for admissions inviting B.A, B.Sc. or equivalent degree holders,” said a candidate, adding that he along with other candidates with same degrees had applied and was selected for an aptitude test.

According to him, he was not only issued an admit card for an aptitude test but was also declared passed and invited for interview for admission. “When they summoned me at the department for interview, I was informed to be “ineligible” for admissions. They further said that the advertisement got published in newspapers “by mistake”.

However, they failed to apologise for their grave mistake which created frustration among candidates and undermined the reputation of an elite institution.

He appealed to the KU VC to take notice of the situation and constitute an inquiry committee.
