QUETTA, Dec 4: The Accountability Court, Quetta, No.2, headed by Judge Nadir Khan Durrani, has awarded five-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs15.6 million to Ashfaq Khalid, former senior divisional accounts officer of PTCL, Quetta, in a reference pertaining to corruption.
Announcing the judgment, the judge ordered that the fine money should be recovered by auctioning his property and in case of default in payment of fine money, he would have to undergo additional two-year RI.
The court also convicted a cashier, Pervez Zaki of PTCL Quetta, who was also found involved in the same reference. He was awarded two-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs0.5 million.
Both the accused embezzled millions of rupees in the purchase of official vehicles, which caused huge losses to the public exchequer.
The National Accountability Bureau issued warrants for both the accused and after their arrest a reference was filed by the Regional Accountability Bureau.
