HARIPUR, Dec 4: Eleven councillors of the Khalabat union council have threatened that if the provincial government does not change its attitude towards local bodies’ representatives, they will resign collectively.
The disgruntled councillors announced formation of an association to press the government to accept their demands.
The councillors, at their first meeting held at the office of the Khalabat Township with association president Shah Nawaz Khan in the chair, termed the attitude of district and provincial governments unjust and un-called for.
Though the Local Government Ordinance 2000 clearly defined the status and duties of a councillor, both governments ignored them in the affairs of the district government, they said and demanded payment of honorarium to the councillors.
OPEN KUTCHERIES: In pursuance of NWFP government instructions to seek public suggestions on development schemes, Haripur Zila Nazim Dr Raja Aamir Zaman will hold open kutcheris in the district from Wednesday to Dec 13.
Elected representatives would also suggest regarding the development schemes approved by a recent meeting of the district council.
The schemes are subject to endorsement by the people of the areas, where they will be carried out.
FAKE CURRENCY NOTES: As shopping for Eid-ul-Fitr is picking up, fake currency notes have flooded the local market.
Fake currency notes of Rs5, 10, 50 and 100 denominations are reported to be in circulation in the local market.
A number of shopkeepers and buyers have complained that fake currency notes are circulating in the market.
