Dacoits shoot four in 17 strikes

LAHORE, Dec 4: Robbers and thieves shot at and injured four people and made off with cash, gold jewellery, valuables, cars and motorcycles in 17 strikes in the city on Tuesday.

Four gunmen held up a security guard, Sardar Khan, in Kot Lakhpat. On resistance, they shot at and injured the guard and a passerby, Akram. The robbers took away the licenced gun of the guard. The injured men were rushed to a nearby hospital where their condition was stated to be out of danger.

Two robbers held up two men, Talib and Sajid, when they were on their way home by a motorcycle on Sehar Road in Shalamar. On resistance, the gangsters opened fire on them, causing serious injuries to the two men and drove away with their motorcycle (LXV-3654). The injured men were first taken to the Shalamar Hospital from where they were shifted to the Mayo Hospital. The injured men were being operated upon till the filing of this report.

Four dacoits stormed into the house of Brig Mohammad Sarwar (retired) in Block-C of the Defence Housing Society and made off with cash and gold ornaments worth Rs75,000.

Some eight armed men set up a picket on a road in Kahna early morning and deprived over 30 people of cash and valuables. They also tied up some of the victims when they resisted and threw them into the fields.

Manzoor Elahi told police that four gunmen stormed into his house in Muslim Town and held up inmates. He said that the intruders collected cash and gold ornaments worth over Rs400,000 and escaped. He identified one of the gangsters as Mumtaz, a contractor who lived in his neighbourhood.

Mazhar Siddiqui drew Rs4,25,000 from a bank in Anarakli and was on his way home when two armed men intercepted him in the Racecourse police limits. The gunmen snatched the money and escaped by a motorcycle.

Two bandits barged into a chemicals shop on Circular Road in the Gowalmandi police limits and held the staff at gunpoint. The robbers collected Rs110,000 from the shop and escaped.

Nine armed men drove away with a tractor-trolley in Manga Mandi and two gunmen took away a car (LXO-9470) in Model Town. Two other cars (LXJ-230 and FDF-8615) were stolen from Sarwar Road and Shahdara Town.

Seven motorcycles (LOC-2978), (LOW-1071), (LHH-7048), (LXN-7212), (LXG-8152), (LXN-7962) and (LXP-4437) were stolen from Gulberg, Baghbanpura, Sanda, Gujjarpura, North Cantonment, Shahdara and Sabzazar, respectively.
