DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Dec 2: The district Nazim D.I.Khan, Maj Latifullah Khan, has said that no one is above the law and irrespective of his status, everyone has to obey the law.
He said there was no reality behind the rumours that the district administration has contacted Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman for a compromise and withdrawal of the writ petitions from the High Court against his detention. Mr Khan while talking to newsmen said that every citizen has constitutional rights but no one will be allowed to violate and deteriorate the peaceful atmosphere in one or the other way.
The Nazim said that in the past, no development work was done in the district and the elected representatives who were responsible, made their own huge properties. He said his past and present was crystal clear before the people. He said he had provided the list of his assets to the government and the people prior to his entrance in politics and holds himself answerable to the people for each and every corruption or embezzlements, if committed.
Talking about his future programmers, Latifullah Khan said that provision of drinking and irrigation water to the people in the district was on the top of his priorities. Mr Khan said Sui gas transmission line for the district and sewerage system for the city was also included in his list of priorities.
He said the work on power supply line from Chashma Hydel Power Station, Chashma, to D.I.Khan, which was announced by the president during his visit to D.I.Khan in August last, has been started and is in full swing, which would lessen the line losses and breakdowns in the district. He said that a new grid station of 220 KVA is also under consideration, which would be erected near Paharpur. He said all the district funds would be utilized on the development of the district with the consultation of all the elected representatives.
Responding to a question, the Nazim rejected the plea that new local government plan which was aimed at decentralization of powers, would flop. He said the main beauty of this system was that it has provided ease to the masses to get their problems resolved on their doorsteps. He said that new committees were being constituted as directed by the provincial government. However, he added, it will take some time to bring out positive changes.
Latifullah Khan said the nation had totally depended upon foreign debts and aids, which had pushed the country towards a total financial disaster.
