Power supply to Lasbela by Wapda under study

By Habib Baloch

HUB, Dec 2: Lasbela district is likely to be provided electricity through the Water and Power Development Authority instead of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation soon, it is reliably learnt.

The proposal is under consideration by the federal government after complaints that the KESC has failed to provide electricity at flat rates to the growers in Lasbela and that the people are being charged at commercial rate, sources said.

District Nazim Jam Kamal Khan, during his recent visit to Islamabad and meeting with President Musharraf, reportedly complained about the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation’s role and asked the president to pass orders for the provision of electricity at flat rates to the growers.

The district Nazim, talking to Dawn, expressed his hope that the growers of the Lasbela district might use electricity at flat rates soon.

GAS SUPPLY: Balochistan government is planning to provide natural gas to Winder Industrial Trading Estate (WITE) soon.

The project will cost Rs220 million, of which Sui Southern Gas would provide half and the rest of the amount would be shared by the federal and provincial governments, sources said.

About 50km area would be provided gas through the pipeline, they said.

The feasibility report for the project has been prepared and the construction would commence shortly, they added.
