HYDERABAD, Dec 2: The Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro, organized the 8th Professor MD Makhdoom Memorial Lecture at the campus here the other day.

The theme of the lecture was “Scope of Telecommunication in the 21st Century”.

Furqan Jawaid, managing director, COMBIT, Canada, currently on a short visit to Pakistan was the keynote speaker.

He said that it was a well-established fact that only those nations would excel in socio-economic fields that have developed a sound scientific and technological base.

He said as we move from the industrial age to the information age, the digital convergence of communications, video, computers, film, graphics, text, and sound will be instantaneous and an interactive delivery system will have an effect on everything. “There is transformation going on that is global and unalterable. The change from analog to digital data pumped to us at mega speed is going to change the world. We will have new businesses and old businesses doing new business in a new way. We are witnessing the birth and death of small companies and multinational corporations as well as a changed world order. Everyone has trouble keeping pace with these changes.
