Rangers move a step closer to semifinals

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 29: A blistering unbeaten 81 by Mohammad Khursheed, coupled by some fine leg-spin bowling by skipper Shakeel Anwar, helped Rangers Gymkhana move a step closer to the semifinals of the Sixth Danish Trophy Ramazan cricket tournament, beating Young Students by seven wickets Thursday at the KGA ground.

Having first use of the wicket, Young Students did well in reaching 167 for nine in 20 overs, through Naeem Qureshi (49), Nadeem Javed (35) and Mohammad Farooq (26), although they were restricted by some fine bowling by Shakeel Anwar (5-28) and Amjad Ali Nayyar (2-27).

Needing 168 runs for victory, Rangers were in dire straits losing their first three wickets with only 44. But sensible batting by Mohammad Khursheed and Haris Jawed 35 not out, pulled their team out of the woods with an unbroken 123-run partnership for the fourth wicket which saw their team through to victory in 18.3 overs.

Khursheed slammed five fours and three sixes in his 45 ball unbeaten 81. Mohammad Azeem bagged two of the three wickets that fell for 28 runs.

Friday’s fixture: Clifton Gymkhana v Mohammad Zamir Khan Memorial.
