Investigation cell at district level

By Our Correspondent

JHANG, Nov 29: A panel of investigators has been set up at the district level, to handle an increasing number of applications seeking transfer of investigations from the police stations concerned.

The panel is headed by the CIA DSP who is assisted by an inspector and a sub inspector. The Jhang SSP said the officers had been selected after an elaborate scrutiny of their record and were known for integrity. He said their investigative acumen had also been taken into account.

He hoped that the setting up of the panel would bring an end to the inordinate delay caused by applications alleging bias against the investigating officers concerned. The SSP said in case of such applications in the future a report would be sought first from the investigating officer already handling the case. The case would be transferred to the panel only if the challan had not been submitted to a court and investigation was not at a crucial stage.

The SSP said most of the local politicians visited his office with applications seeking transfer of investigations.
