Bungling in highways dept

KASUR, Nov 28: An army team on Wednesday detected a bungling of hundreds of thousands of rupees in the Highway Department.

The department had reportedly got a road constructed from Gohr Jagir to Beri Pir Ganga Kalan with an expenditure of Rs4.7 million.

Later, Kasur district council constructed the same road only on paper. The contractor allegedly received hundreds of thousands of rupees with the connivance of the officials concerned.

The team took the record in possession.

TWO DIE ON ROAD: Two women were killed while three people sustained injuries in road accidents in Chunian and Illahabad on Wednesday.

One Sakina was on her way to fields from Harchoky village, Chunian, when a tractor-trolley (SA-1704) coming from Pattoky Bypass knocked her down after collision with a tonga. Sakina died on the spot while coachman Muhammad Ashiq and passenger Muhammad Ishaq Malang received injuries.

Meanwhile, Ghulam Mohyuddin and his wife Irshad were going to Chunian from Kanganpur by a wagon (LXP-2189) when it collided head-on with a truck on the Chunian Road. Irshad expired instantly while her husband hurt.

SHOT DEAD: A girl was shot dead by her uncle over illicit relations in Chak 14, Changa Manga, early on Wednesday.

Sajida had reportedly developed illicit relations with Pervez and fled with him two weeks ago. Her uncle Shah Nawaz shot her dead when she returned.

TRANSFERRED: Kasur SSP transferred inspectors Babar Ali and Munir Ahmad and sub-inspector Ahmad Saeed Cheema from Police Lines to the CIA staff.

ASI Bashir Ahmad was transferred from Raiwind Police Station to Raja Jang.

Meanwhile, Lahore range DIG transferred inspector Nasir Mushtaq from Kasur to Lahore and sub-inspector Muhammad Siddique from Kasur to Sheikhupura.
