Polio vaccine reaches less than 50pc children

By Our Correspondent

JHANG, Nov 27: Less than 50 per cent of the targeted children in the district received polio drops during the recent campaign, it has been learnt.

Special mobile teams were formed to go door to door and visit schools and public places to administer the drops to children under five years of age. A Rs10,000 allocation was made for every basic health unit for the purpose. Despite several extensions in the programme, the teams have not visited the villages, preferring instead to wait for the children at the health centres. Sources said poor supervision and control were responsible for the failure.

The sources said situation was not much different in the urban area. Residents of Rana Colony, situated in front of the DHO’s office, said they too had complained of lack of vaccine.
