KARACHI: Allocations for KPP in Sindh being doubled
KARACHI, Nov 27: Sindh Minister for Local Government Dewan Mohammad Yousuf Farooqui has said that the allocation for the Khushal Pakistan Programme in Sindh is being doubled.
Speaking to the Nazims and DCOs of various district of Sindh in a local hotel on Tuesday, he said the enhanced amount would be utilized for the infrastructure development, water supply, drainage, roads, etc.
The minister said the Rs1.8 billion second phase of Khushhal Pakistan Programme in Sindh was nearing completion.
He stated that some 620 schemes were being executed in various districts of the province under this phase.
Dewan Yousuf said 90 per cent of these schemes had been completed and the remaining 10 per cent schemes would be completed by Dec 15.
He told the Nazims that they had the funds allocations and the schemes had been identified and they should complete them at the earliest so that the phase two of the KPP could be completed.
It was stated that 100 per cent schemes had been completed in Ghotki, Larkana, Nawabshah and Sukkur.
The minister informed the gathering that the alloca-tion for the third phase of the KPP in Sindh had been doubled.
He asked the Nazims to identify the development schemes in their areas so that they could be taken up in the next phase of this programme.
Dewan Yousuf said that Rs440 million was released on Tuesday and some Rs600 million would be released under this programme in a month.
He asked the Nazims to prepare schemes for low-cost housing in their respective areas. Such schemes should be on the basis of no-profit-no-loss.
Basic facilities should be made available at such housing schemes which should provide shelter to more and more people.
The minister said he would also soon convene a meeting of the Nazims and DCOs with the director-general of Sindh Kutchi Abadis Authorities so that the problems of the dwellers of the kutcha abadis should also be addressed.
He also asked the Nazims and the DCOs to come up with ‘bachat bazars’ in their respective areas where people could get articles of daily use at discount.
Dewan Yousuf said that there were some talukas in the province which had not yet prepared their budgets and they should complete this task at the earliest.
At the meeting the participants also reviewed the progress of the Khushal Pakistan Programme schemes.
The Nazims of various districts of Sindh on the occasion briefed about such schemes in their respective areas.
It was stated that the required staff to the Nazims and the DCOs had been made available.
The meeting was also attended by the chief secretary of Sindh, Javed Ashraf Hussain.—APP
