SYDNEY, Nov 26: Ben Johnson Monday became the first South Australian batsman in almost a century to carry his bat through an entire innings against Western Australia.
But the lefthanded opener’s unbeaten 121 counted for little as his team collapsed to be all out for 206 in their first innings, chasing Western Australia’s 227 in the national interstate competition.
Western Australia were 23 without loss in their second innings, leading by 44 runs with 10 wickets in hand, at close of play on the second day at Adelaide Oval.
Meanwhile, Queensland were heading towards a comfortable win in their match against New South Wales in Brisbane.
When play ended on the second day, NSW were struggling at 180-7 in their second innings, leading by just 90 runs with only three wickets in hand.
Queensland started the day at 109-4 in reply to NSW’s dismal first innings total of 146 and finished with 236, a lead of 90, with captain Stuart Law top scoring with 70.
