PSF to promote women squash

Published November 27, 2001

KARACHI, Nov 26: The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) has said that it aims to promote women’s squash in Pakistan, an official said Monday.

“During the annual general meeting of the PSF we discussed ways and means to promote women’s squash in Pakistan as more and more international and regional events are featuring women’s competitions,” PSF secretary Squadron Leader Sajid Waheed said.

Women hardly play sports in Pakistan and their participation at an international level does not even amount to ten per cent of Pakistan’s total representation.

“We have directed the provincial squash associations to hunt for local talent and hold provincial level competitions,” said Sajid.

Pakistan will be holding the IXth South Asian Federation Games (SAF) and Asian squash championship next year. Both feature women’s squash events.

“For the SAF Games we have already announced the squad and we have high hopes from Pakistan’s British-based Karla Khan,” the PSF secretary said.—SADA
