CENTURION (South Africa), Nov 25: Shaun Pollock hammered an unbeaten 113 off 109 balls to put South Africa in command on the third day of the unofficial Test against India Sunday.

South African captain Pollock propelled his side to 566 for eight — 334 ahead of India’s first innings of 232 — before rain ended play with 13.5 overs of the day’s quota not bowled.

Pollock, batting at number eight, blasted nine fours and seven sixes, and shared an unbroken ninth wicket stand of 121 with Makhaya Ntini, who was 34 not out.

South Africa capitalised on their strong overnight position of 261 for four as Jacques Kallis made 110.

Lance Klusener and Kallis put on 60 for the fifth wicket before the left hander was caught at second slip by Vangipurappu Laxman off paceman Javagal Srinath for 33.

Kallis reached his hundred with a four through mid-wicket off left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra and proceeded to smash the next two deliveries to the boundary.

But in the next over he played over a straight ball from leg-spinner Anil Kumble and was bowled, having faced 234 balls and hit 18 boundaries.

In Nehra’s next over, Mark Boucher was bowled for 19 by a ball that dislodged the off stump bail.

That brought Pollock and Nicky Boje together and they raised the run rate with entertaining hitting.

The pair shared a 50-run stand before Boje came down the pitch to off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, missed the ball, and was stumped by Deep Dasgupta for 20.
