ISLAMABAD, Nov 25: The government will redefine and revitalize the role of Federal Investigation Agency in its fight against white-collar crime and terrorism.
This decision was taken at a meeting held on Saturday to discuss reorganization of the FIA in this perspective.
The meeting, presided over by Interior Minister Moinuddin Haider, decided to create a special anti-terrorist cell in the agency.
The minister directecd the FIA to mould itself in order to meet challenges like crime investigation, fight against terrorism and maintain criminal data and a central forensic laboratory for an effective control on immigration and use of fake passports.
The meeting discussed a restructuring plan for the FIA, aimed at better monitoring and efficient investigation. It also looked into requirements of the agency, which included the training and recruitment of immigration staff, logistics, communications , laboratory equipment and staff welfare projects, etc.
The director-general, FIA, gave a presentation about the agency. The secretary, Interior, and other officials attended the meeting.—APP
