Haider’s unbeaten 101 fails to save team

KARACHI, Nov 24: Splendid batting by Aamir Iqbal, coupled with some bowling by spinners Aqeel Sharif and Wajihuddin, enabled Mohammad Hussain CC register a six-wicket victory over Aftab Memorial in the 16th Karachi Gymkhana Ramazan cricket tournament played Saturday at the Karachi Gymkhana ground.

Put into bat after losing the toss, Aftab Memorial were shot out for 145 runs in 24.3 overs with left-arm spinner Aqeel Sharif (3-18) and Wajihuddin (3-23) main wicket takers. Iftikhar Ahmed had a fluent knock of 60 runs, followed by Mohammad Sami (25) and Ishtiaq Ahmed (20).

Chasing 146 runs for victory, Mohammad Hussain CC achieved the victory target after 20.5 overs in scoring 146 for five. Aamir Iqbal was unbeaten with 53 runs Zeeshan Tanveer scored 47 and Farman Shah 23 runs.

In the second match a fluent unbeaten 101 by Aley Haider, could not stop Malir Gymkhana from beating Landhi Friends by 17 runs in a high scoring match.

Malir Gymkhana batting first hit up 199 for four in their 25 stipulated overs with Aamir Hanif (57), Younis Khan (43), Zeeshan Pervez (36) and Farhan Adil (34) among the runs.

Taking up the challenge to score 200 runs for victory, Landhi Friends after a bad start, failed to register an exciting victory going down by 17 runs while reaching 182 for two in their 25 allotted overs.
