KARACHI: Govt plans to computerize transport record


KARACHI, Nov 24: The District Regional Transport Authority (DRTA) of the Karachi city government would computerise the record of all buses, minibuses and other public vehicles and their routes in Karachi to improve transport facilities.

This was decided at the first meeting of the DRTA board held under the chairmanship of District Coordination Officer (DCO), Karachi Shafiqur Rehman Paracha here on Saturday.

The DCO directed the DRTA to prepare a comprehensive plan for the computerisation of transport record and submit it at the next meeting of the board.

The board also decided that in future all new applications for new routes or amendments in the routes would be presented at the meeting, in the shape of transparencies, charts and maps.

The Saturday’s meeting also considered some applications for new bus routes and changes in the existing routes.

The meeting also heard the points of view of the applicants and complainants. The board approved all those applications on which there were no objections.

The meeting deferred an application for amendment in the route of Saeed Coach, which plies from PAF Masroor Base to Surjani Town. The applicant had requested to chart the route via Gul Bai, Tower, City Station, Fowara Chowk, Cantonment Station, Empress Market (Saddar), Numaish, Lasbela, Abbasi Hospital, Abdullah College, Hussain de-Silva Town and Khawaja Ajmer Nagri.

The participants of the meeting raised objections to the inclusion of Saddar into the route and said that there was already a congestion of traffic there, so if the applicant excluded Saddar and resubmitted the application, the route might be approved. The board also deferred its decision on other such applications.

The meeting decided to defer consideration of the application on route permit to minibus route “Y”, till the permission is granted by the provincial ombudsman.

The board members were of the opinion that this route is 18 years old and people benefited from it. So the board would recommend to the Sindh ombudsman to allow to retain the route.

The meeting approved a new route for Kashmir Coach from Chaman Colony Khokharapar to Fisheries. This route would be: Khokharapar No. 4, 3, 2, 1, Saeedabad No. 15, Police Chowk, RCD Ground, Model Colony, Malir Halt, Sharea Faisal, Natha Khan Goth, Drigh Road, Labour Camp, Lal Flats, Nipa Chowrangi, University Road, Hasan Square, (Old) Sabzi Mandi, Jail Chowrangi, Numaish, M.A. Jinnah Road, Jama Cloth Market and Fisheries.

The meeting constituted a review committee comprising EDO (transport) Malik Zahirul Islam, DIG traffic Muhammad Yamin Khan, DDO Transport Authority Shamim Akhtar. This committee would consider disputed applications.

The DCO asked the transporters to submit the application after their mutual consensus.

The board also approved change in bus route 1-C and according to the amended route it would be: Qasba Colony, Banaras Colony, Habib Bank, Bara Board, Old Golimar, Garden Plaza, Court Road, City Station, Tower, Fisheries, ICI Bridge, Agra Taj Colony, Gul Bai and 500 Quarters.

The meeting also approved a new route from Orangi Town Sector 11-1/2 to Meteorology Office and asked the applicant to present for inspection at least 10 vehicles which should be registered in his name.

All those vehicles should be fit according to specific requirement.

The meeting decided that in future applic terminated at Clifton.

The new routes now would be: Surjani Town, Nagan Chowrangi, Sakhi Hasan, Haidry, Nazimabad, Lasbela, M.A. Jinnah Road, Saddar, Murshid Bazar, Lucky Star, Jinnah Hospital, Cantonment and Main Clifton.

The meeting was also attended by all SSPs of traffic.—APP
