ISLAMABAD, Nov 23: Pakistan Squash Federation’s negotiations with brothers Faheem Gul and Jamshed Gul to coach the senior players have fallen through, Dawn has learnt from insiders.
Faheem, based in Singapore, where he is a national coach and Jamshed who coaches in Malaysia, have both said to have demanded hefty salaries besides other perks to take up the Pakistan job.
Faheem has demanded a monthly salary of $3500 from the PSF besides accommodation, insurance and transportation while Jamshed has asked for $2000 each month with a raise of 20 per cent every year. Both were seeking five-year contracts.
The president of PSF, Air Chief Marshal Mushaf Ali Mir was believed to be keen on hiring either Faheem or Jamshed for the senior players but it is understood that the kind of money demanded by them is not acceptable to the federation.
With negotiations with the two having failed, the PSF is now said to be in the process of contacting Muhammad Yasin, a one- time coach of former world champion Jansher Khan.
If everything works out Yasin would replace current coach Aftab Javed who has been training the seniors for more than six months now. Yasin, a former national champion who has played in the world top ten, may take up the job after Eid.
It is however not known how much money the PSF is willing to dish out to hire a coach but it is expected that Yasin may agree to the federation’s offer.
Meanwhile, Mansoor Zaman and Shahid Zaman are to compete in three tournaments in the United States in January. The two have already sent their entries for the competitions.
