Five-goal Atif in devastating form

LAHORE, Nov 23: Malik Atif Yar Tiwana scored five goals, including a hat trick, to guide Millat Tractors to a win 7-4 1/2 over Vogue in the Lt Col Rizvi memorial polo tournament at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Friday.

In another match of the tournament, Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana alone put in four goals to help Amin & Company beat Ali Akbar Group (AAG)  6 1/2-5. Sufi Muhammad Haris scored a hat trick but could not save AAG team from defeat.

The Vogue enjoyed half-a-goal’s advantage on the handicap and scored four goals during play. Taimur Mawaz Khan “Tony” and Shahid Iqbal scored two goals, each for the Vogue side. But Malik Atif Yar Tiwana again struck form and scored five brilliant goals while Raja Amer scored two goals which gave Millat Tractors a creditable win.

Atif opened the scoring on a spot penalty near the goalpost. Raja Amer scored first of his two field goals for Millat Tractors after a long chase. Shahid Iqbal also scored first of his two field goals to reduce the margin for Vogue to 1 1/2-2.

At start of the second chukker, Raja Amer scored his second goal,  crowning a field effort for Millat Tractors. Taimur  Mawaz Khan scored the first of his two field goals to reduce the margin for Vogue but Atif scored his second and Millat Tractors’ fourth goal to increase its lead to 4-2 1/2.

Atif scored his third and  Millat Tractors’ fifth goal, converting a 40 yards penalty hit during the third chukker. Taimur Mawaz crowned a field effort to score his second and Vogue side’s third goal but Atif converted a 40 yards penalty-hit and  not only completed his hat-trick but also increased Millat Tractors’  lead to 6-3 1/2.  That was Atif’s fourth goal.

At start of the fourth chukker, Atif scored his fifth and Millat  Tractors’ seventh goal on a spot penalty near the goalpost.  Shahid Iqbal scored his second and the Vogue team’s fourth goal before the match ended.

Amin & Company had an advantage of half-a-goal on the handicap and scored six goals during play. Sufi Muhammad Haris scored a hat trick but could not save AAG team from defeat.

Azam Hayat Noon opened the scoring for Ali Akbar Group  (AAG), crowning a field effort. Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana converted a 40  yards penalty-hit. Sufi Muhammad Haris scored a field goal and AAG  led 2-1 1/2 at conclusion  of  the first chukker.

Amin & Company dominated the second chukker by scoring three goals as against  one put in by Ali Akbar  Group.  Ahmad Nawaz converted  two 30 yards penalty hits and in between these two goals, Hashim scored a field goal. Sufi Haris crowned a field effort to score his second and AAG’s third goal. When the second chukker ended, Amin & Company led 4 1/2-3.

Sufi Haris scored only goal of the third chukker on a spot penalty near the goalpost to reduce margin for AAG to 4-4 1/2. That goal completed his hat trick.

During the fourth chukker, Amin & Company scored two goals in succession to increase the lead further. Ahmad Nawaz scored his fourth goal and Amin & Company’s fifth goal on a 60 yards penalty hit.

 Faisal Ejaz scored his only goal on a field effort to confirm  Amin & Company’s lead. Mohsin Khosa scored his only goal to reduce the margin for AAG to 5-6 1/2. However, his effort fell short of requirement.
