KARACHI: Educational institutions to be privatized, says minister
KARACHI, Nov 23: Sindh Governor Mohammadmian Soomro has taken strict notice of some groups of government employees indulging in agitational ‘politics’.
This was stated by Sindh Education Secretary Nazar Mohammad Mahar after a meeting held by Sindh Governor here on Friday.
He said the meeting was attended by the Sindh education minister, the chief secretary and other officials.
In the meeting, Mahar said, it was made clear that agitational politics by any government employee would not be tolerated.
He said it was decided that stern action would be initiated according to rules against those government employees who instead of performing their job, indulge in agitational politics and trade union activities.
Mr Maher said those found involved in dereliction of duty would be shunted out and replaced by the new staff so that government work does not suffer.
Regarding privatization of educational institutions in the province, he said it was being pursued in greater national interest and for improving the academic standards.
Mahar declared that privatization of educational institutions would be carried out at all costs.
He said in future the promotions of academic staff would be linked with their performance in the examinations.
The education secretary said those employees with BEd and MEd degrees who are seeking financial benefits from the current year would have to appear in a test to ascertain their abilities.
He said such tests are being initiated to discourage copying and help improve the standard of education.
From now on, the Sindh education department would not accept any degree until a test is conducted.—APP
