KARACHI: Illegal fishing nets seized

KARACHI, Nov 23: A team of the fisheries department, on Friday, confiscated 35 bullo and Gujjo fishing nets from Phutti Creek under its campaign against the use of prohibited fishing nets.

Director fisheries development and research, Abdul Wahid, supervised the operation.

The seven-member team was headed by assistant director Zafar Ali Qureshi. The team utilised the services of the Docks police in this operation.

The value of the confiscated nets is more than Rs 4 million.

The campaign has been started on the directive of the provincial ombudsman.

The Sindh government has prohibited the use of bullo, gujjo and katro fishing to prevent the killing of premature fish and shrimps in creek areas.

These nets are destroying the growth of good quality fish and shrimps along the coastline of Sindh, resulting in the decline of catch.— APP
