DHAKA, Nov 21: Bangladesh named wicket-keeper/batsman Khaled Masud as skipper Wednesday for their Test tour of New Zealand next month.
Masud replaced Naimur Rahman who was axed as captain after losing the two-Test home series 1-0 to Zimbabwe earlier this week.
Rahman had totalled 33 runs with the bat in two innings in the second Test in Chittagong which ended on Monday. The rain-affected first Test in Dhaka was drawn.
“Rahman and former captain Akram Khan have been dropped as they have not been doing well in recent days, and to accommodate talented newcomers,” said chief selector Mainul Hoque.
Akram Khan was replaced by Tushar Imran, who hit a double century against an Indian regional junior side earlier this month.
Middle-order batsman Sanwar Hossain replaced Naimur Rahman after he also played well against Indian junior teams in October and early November.
The first Test is in Hamilton from Dec 18-22 with the second in Wellington from Dec 26-30.
