ISLAMABAD, Nov 21: The government will amend the “Blue Book of Security” to incorporate existing procedures of protocol for district Nazims and district coordination officers, Dawn learnt from reliable sources.

According to the sources, the proposal has been sent to the interior ministry by the Chief Executive’s Secretariat.

The decision to amend the security protocol comes in the backdrop of a meeting of the district Nazims of Sindh with President Gen Pervez Musharraf.

During the meeting, it is learnt, the Nazims had raised the issue of security and protocol.

Interior ministry spokesman Abdul Rashid Khan, when contacted, said that, since the offices of the commissioner and the deputy commissioner had ceased to exist, amendments had to be made accordingly to the “Blue Book.”

He said the entries relating to commissioner and deputy commissioner would be deleted and changes made in the Book according to the situation after the installation of local governments.

According to the proposal, the security protocol for commissioner would now be enjoyed by the district Nazim. Similarly, the security protocol for deputy commissioner will now be enjoyed by the district coordination officer, the sources said.

Once the amendments were incorporated, they said, the Nazims and the DCOs would receive invitations for all national and international functions, as used to be the case for commissioner and deputy commissioner respectively. Their security arrangements would also be similar to the ones availed of by commissioners and deputy commissioners previously.
