Azam, Classic earn comfortable wins

ISLAMABAD, Nov 19: Azam and Classic Clubs scored big victories in the Chairman CDA cricket championship which is in progress at various centres of Islamabad.

Azam inflicted a crushing 100 run defeat on Shaheen at the Punjab Ground, a win spearheaded by a marvellous 75 by Imran Khateeb and a 53-run knock by Shahid Iqbal who also took three wickets.

After putting on 226 for six in 40 overs, Azam bowled out Shaheen for 126, Shahid conceding 34 runs for his three wickets. Fayaz Gul was even more impressive with the ball taking as many wickets but was more economical in giving away only 10 runs.

For Shaheen, Shahid Mahmood topscored with 43 followed by Kamran Abbasi who had 36.

Classic routed Federal Gymkhana by 113 runs at the Diamond Ground. Zahid Farooq cracked an unbeaten 83 and Ahmad Kamal struck a breezy 55 in the winning team’s total of 247 for six. Malik Zeeshan was the successful Gymkhana bowler snapping up three for 45.

Gymkhana replied tamely falling for 134 to hand their rivals a comfortable victory. Malik Zeeshan, with 30 was the top run scorer with Sajid Khan coming a close second by collecting 26 not out.

Shahid Shahzad and Muhammad Saleem ran through the Gymkhana batting to finish with four wickets each.

Ismail bt NHA by 55 runs at Lalquarter Ground. Ismail 202 for seven in 35 overs (Mustafa Raza 51, Tanveer Ahmed 32, Muqadar Iqbal 26; Tahir Ansari 2-37, Iftikhar Ahmed 2-26); NHA 147 all out (Rehan Razzak 26, Tanveer Ahmed 3-9, Wasim Bari 2-40).
