Mill workers for reopening hospital

Published November 20, 2001

BUREWALA, Nov 19: Workers of the Burewala Textile Mills have voiced their worries over the closure of the 25-bed hospital.

Talking to newsmen here on Monday, mills’ union office bearers alleged the management had closed the hospital on the directive of the Punjab Social Security director.

They said the hospital was equipped with all modern equipment and was extending medical cover to hundreds of mills workers.

The management had directed workers to get treatment from the Social Security Department’s dispensary which they claimed not only lacked proper facilities, but even had no doctor.

The one-room dispensary and a dispenser was no alternative to a 25-bed fully equipped hospital with X-ray machine, laboratory, ambulance and other allied facilities, they said.

They asked high-ups of the Punjab Labour department to intervene and direct the mills management to re-open the hospital.—APP
